Overview

Working at Vantage Power (VP) will be a very special experience. Founded in 2011, VP built up a highly talented team who over the years made significant advances in the field of battery pack, control system and connectivity technologies. In 2019 the company was acquired by Allison Transmission – a global leader in propulsion technologies including hybrid-electric and conventional powertrain products.

This acquisition has put VP into the unique position of being able to retain its entrepreneurial, dynamic and close-knit team culture while being backed by an extremely well run global business.

You will be responsible for satisfying the sourcing and procurement of sub-assemblies, components, materials, equipment and tooling used on the development of commercial vehicle electrified drivetrains and battery systems. The projects focus mainly on research and development. 

You will also be responsible for inputting data on systems to perform key tasks for purchase ordering and other transactions in procurement and supply with ensuring an ongoing data integrity.

You are comfortable dealing with ambiguity and change in a dynamic, fast-paced, results orientated environment. You are organised, methodical and take a systematic approach. 

You will be working within the Supply Chain team and reporting directly to the Supply Chain Lead.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. Candidates already in the UK and working under Tier 2 Sponsorship will also be considered.


Responsibilities and Activities

PO CYCLE

  • Responsible for the preparation and distribution of Requests for Quotes (RFQ’s) and Purchase Orders (PO’s);
  • Maintain RFQ and PO logs by monitoring of orders, recording purchase proposals and delivery accuracy, and rescheduling orders when needed to ensure timely delivery.

SOURCING

  • Review electrical or mechanical schematics and drawings to identify which materials need to be sourced;
  • Assess and select the most appropriate suppliers using relevant sources of information, and when required, explore alternate suppliers;
  • Demonstrate and encourage best negotiation practice;
  • Working with the Supply Chain Lead, make sure the general terms and conditions of sales and purchase are acceptable;
  • Find the right trade-off between delivery time and cost;
  • Working with the Supply Chain Lead, contribute to initiatives that develop and enhance procurement strategy in-line with project objectives.

DATA

  • Create and manage an approved supplier list including tracking supplier certifications;
  • Assist with the input and management of electrified products and supplier data onto a database;
  • Prepare briefs, updates and reports as when required;
  • Maintains excel spreadsheets and shared subfolders with key commercial and technical data;
  • Obtain and assess supplier quotations and collate key data.

PROTOTYPE BUILD

  • Support the in-house build of prototypes by tracking serial numbers, creating part kits, and re-stocking and tracking sub-assemblies;
  • Perform stock checks ahead of prototype builds.

RELATIONSHIPS & COMMUNICATION

  • Develop, maintain and improve (as required) relationships with suppliers;
  • Ensure that communication with stakeholders and suppliers are appropriate, prompt and timely;
  • Liaise between internal stakeholders and suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, and invoice issues;
  • Report issues, risks and opportunities to Supply Chain Lead;
  • Ensure company policies and professional purchasing practices are adhered to.

OPERATIONS SUPPORT

  • Identify and replenish shortages of raw materials and consumables (mechanical and electrical);
  • Manage collections of outbound goods, preparing shipping documentation and packing goods before collection;
  • Manage delivery of incoming goods including and unpacking and stocking goods;
  • Ensure a high level of organisation is maintained in the stores area, keeping track of shelf locations and ensuring parts are in appropriate containers;
  • Working with the engineering team, perform periodic stock audits to remove materials surplus to requirement.

 

Skills and Experience

Required:

  • Experience of procuring a variety of commodities and materials, including 1 of the following:
    • Custom machined parts & fabrications
    • Electrical and mechanical consumables
    • Tooling & equipment 
  • Capability to work autonomously and to work across the business, other teams and at all levels;
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and interested by the industry (or similar) and products;
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills;
  • Effective attention to detail with high degree of accuracy;
  • Requires good organisation, communication skills and cooperation;
  • Competent with MS Office suite.

Desirable:

  • Capable of understanding electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings;
  • Automotive industry experience;
  • CIPS qualification or equivalent an advantage;
  • Experience with the understanding on interpretation of Terms & Conditions of purchase;
  • Technical understanding/appreciation of electrical components and electrified powertrain systems;
  • Engineering background to illustrate innovative ideas for cost reduction and modification whilst working closely with the R&D and engineering departments;
  • Have an understanding of shipping and warehousing processes;
  • Experience with global purchasing.
