Name: Mireia Sentis

Role at VP: Senior Supply Chain Engineer

Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?: I use at least three different languages per day to communicate with people!

What does your role involve?: My role involves liaising with suppliers to ensure that the engineering team have all they need to turn VP's visions to reality. Having worked at VP since the very beginning, I have had a first-hand experience of the company's exciting journey.

What did you study to end up in a role like yours?: I went to University in Spain and I studied Mechanical Engineering. I then moved to the UK and completed a masters in Engineering and Industrial Management.

Why did you become an engineer?: I was growing up when Fernando Alonso, a Spanish F1 driver, started to show his talent and won his first F1 world championship. He became very popular in Spain and I would follow every single race he was in. I became fascinated with the technology in F1 and decided that I wanted to study engineering.

What's the best part about working in engineering?: The best part of being an engineer is the range of challenges you are faced with on a daily basis. This makes it a very interesting job that allows you to continually develop as a professional.

What advice do you have for young people considering a career in engineering?: Do not follow stereotypes or as a default think “I cannot do it”. Engineering is a very good base for a range of careers and is not just about numbers, programming or resolving difficult maths algorithms. It prepares you for the future and will give you possibilities in a lot of different areas. To date, my engineering background has given me the possibility to work in mechanical CAD design, the supply chain, teaching, and selling products. I’m sure there are still many more things to come as well!
