The Duke of Edinburgh Visits Vantage Power

On Monday 20th February 2017, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh joined Vantage Power at a reception to celebrate the introduction of London’s first retrofitted hybrid buses.

Touring VP’s facilities in Greenford, the Duke demonstrated his enthusiasm for VP and our technology, not least because he was one of the first to pioneer the use of eco/electric technology, driving an electric car in the Sixties, and also owning an eco-friendly Metrocab.

During his visit, Prince Philip saw our cutting-edge CAD techniques and the rapid prototyping methods used by our exceptional design team, viewed the assembly our unique control and telemetry electronics, and got to grips with the production of one of our proprietary battery packs. All these elements came together when CTO Toby Schulz showed the Duke a fully operational B320 hybrid retrofit system in one of our customer’s buses.

To top off his trip to Vantage Power, His Royal Highness took the time to individually meet and talk to team members and our other guests, which included Leon Daniels, Managing Director for Surface Transport at TfL, and senior representatives from our first three customers; Go Ahead London, Arriva London and London United.

A speech from our Chairman, Robert Marshall, challenging the team to continue developments until they made bus travel fit for royalty culminated in the Duke unveiling a plaque commemorating his visit.
